Compare Web Hosting – What to Look For

January 20th, 2010 · No Comments

When you start to compare web hosting companies there are a few things you need to consider before you actual purchase their plan.

What Services Do I Need In A Web Hosting Plan?

  • Money back guarantee
  • No set-up fee
  • Affordable cost
  • Own e-mail (example: webmaster@yoursite.com)
  • Excellent Customer Support
  • No ads
  • Private domain registration (optional)
  • Toll Free Support
  • Affordable domain renewal

Some web host companies will offer you great incentives to sign up with one of their plans but once you have signed up, they may have hidden fees.

So when you compare one web host to another make sure you are actually comparing the closest web hosting packages that you can.

Domain Name

Some of the web hosting providers will include a domain name included with their packages.

This may be a good option for many people.

The downside of this is that when you have a domain name included and you are not happy with your web hosting provider, you may not be able to “keep” your domain name if you transfer to another hosting company.

The reason is that your domain is included for only the time you stay with that hosting provider.

No Advertisements

If you are purchasing hosting, you should not have any of their advertisements on your web pages.

That is usually only for the free hosting companies as this is how they make some of their money.

This chart will help you compare affordable web hosting.

Best Web Hosting Companies

With so many companies vying for your business, how do you really know which company would be what you need?

That is a difficult question since everybody has certain wants and needs for their individual websites.

Long Term

Long Term condition was not stated above in the items to think about when you are comparing web hosting services.

How long do you plan on being with this company.

Are you looking to create a website and just keep building on it or do you want to create mini sites that you will be working on.

How Long Online?

I know you are making your website to be online for a long time, make sure the web hosting company will be able to grow with you.

Do research on how long the company has been in business by reading reviews and asking on forums that you participate in.

Your hosting package will be an on-going expense so take time to really take a look when you start to compare web hosting plans.

Quick Guide to Creating a Website

January 18th, 2010 · No Comments

While surfing the web to find a good free book on how to create a website, I realized there were not many online to really help a beginner.

They all wanted me to buy this product and that product.

It seems all of them told me I needed to buy a domain name and web hosting first, then start creating a site.

Heck, how can I even decide on a name when I was not sure of what I will be creating a website for.

I needed help with first of all finding a niche.

Where do I look?  How do I find out if it is profitable? What about competition? Is there alot?

So many questions and the books never gave me answers. Only told me to buy a domain from this registrar and web hosting from this provider.

It was so very frustrating. Even more frustrating when I was trying to make a website that the search engines would find. And better yet, visitors would find me.

My creating websites tutorial does have a lot of steps and I realized there needed to be a quick guide for beginners to make it easy.

So even though there are many steps to creating a website, I decided to create a free quick start book to guide you on how to start building a website.

Has Video Killed Visitors On Your Website?

December 29th, 2009 · No Comments

Radio Killed The Video Star. Have you heard that phrase?

It seems more and more people are creating videos instead of writing content to attract visitors to their site.

Don’t get me wrong, I think video is a great way to get your information out to many people, but what I have found is when I am looking for information on the internet, I need to “watch another video” to obtain it.

Give me a choice.

Let me watch the video or read the article.

There are many times when I am looking for information, I just want to skim different web pages until I find all that I am looking for.

But with videos, I am unable to do that.  I have to watch the whole video to get information I want.

That can be very frustrating since some of the videos could be up to 10 minutes long and if I was able to read an article, I could just skim to the parts I want.

Videos can be a great asset when you are giving someone step by step instructions and having that personal touch that seems to be lacking on the Internet.

But so many times, I have watched videos and they drag out what they are talking about.

If you are using videos on your site, but do not have an article available for someone to be able to read if they are under time restraints you may be losing that visitors attention.

Take the time to write articles in conjunction with videos. This can be a great asset to helping many more visitors on your website.

Think outside the box when you are creating your videos to help capture people’s attention.

Sure, there are thousands of people that love to watch the videos, but just think for one minute if you take the time to capture the attention of the people who still like to read articles also how many more visitors you could obtain.

Compare affordable web hosting to fit your budget

January 22nd, 2009 · 1 Comment

With the price of everything going up these days, you can still find affordable web hosting. You don’t have to purchase software to help you create a website as many of the web hosting companies have included with their hosting plans a quick installation of blogging software, like Wordpress.

With so many different types of hosting companies on the Internet, it was difficult to see what the difference really was, so I put that chart together to help.

Beginners Beware

When I was first starting out online, I found (what I thought) was a good price for web hosting, what I found out later was that the hosting company I was using was a reseller for another company.

As I compared the hosting plans from the reseller to the actual hosting company, I realized how much they were jacking up the prices of the different products.

Don’t get me wrong, I see nothing wrong with making a profit reselling hosting, but many are raking newbies over the coals.

Save Your Money

When you are first starting out with creating your website or blog, you can find a basic hosting program for around $50 a year and many times with the domain registration included.

Basic plans usually have enough space to get up and running so don’t think you need to get the biggest package with all the bells and whistles starting out. This is especially true if you are going to use just a blogging software to create your web presence.

You can always upgrade to a bigger package later on down the road.

Is a basic plans really all I need?

Yes, it really is because the amount of space, e-mail address, sub-domains and many times the quick install of blogging software is included with these packages. Here is a comparison of affordable web hosting plans.

As you can see from the chart many of the plans do have basically the same services. I have used a few of the big names in this business that have excellent customer service.

Sure, every company will have complaints. I have see on the Internet many complaints about GoDaddy.

Even after seeing the different complaints, I decided to give them a try.

I couldn’t be happier with them.

With a few domains at another company, I moved them over to GoDaddy, then signed up with their basic hosting package because of the quick install of Wordpress. Yes, this blog is hosted with them.

I did have a few problems at the beginning, but once I contacted customer service they helped me work them out.

Long-Term Contract

Even if you don’t want to lock yourself into a long term hosting plan, it does save you money since many times you can get better rates buying web hosting for 12, 24 or 36 months.

Remember, blogging and/or creating a site (usually) is a business venture for you. You are looking to make money.

If you only sign up for a one month plan then by the time you actually start getting your feet wet, it is time to pay for hosting again. Who wants to have to remember to pay monthly?

Monthly payments may work for you while you are just starting out. But once you are able it is best to to with a 12 month plan (or even longer) because the time creating, building and designing your site will go extremely fast and before you know it your 12 month time is up.

So while you are looking at the different hosting, do take a look at the long term hosting plans. Many times you can get a great deal.

Think you have to small of a budget and need cheap (but great service) hosting plans, take a look at this chart that compares affordable web hosting that can fit into any budget.

Using an Autoresponder – Free Trial

November 15th, 2008 · No Comments

If your goal is to make money from your web site, collecting customer e-mail addresses is one of the THE most important tasks you can complete.

Unlimited Autoresponders by AWeber

This important task can be easily done by using an
autoresponder.

Since most people don’t usually buy the first time they
visit your site, you need to build a certain level of trust
in your site and this is not generally done on the first or even the second visit.

To overcome this you can offer a newsletter by using an autoresponder to stay in touch with your visitors and remind them why they should re-visit your site and/or buy products you recommend or sell.

If done effectively, it may increase your sales tremendously.

For those of you that may not know, an autoresponder is an automatic e-mail message or series of messages that are sent at certain intervals specified by the sender.

Autoresponders are good tools for building relationships with your existing visitors by following up on purchases and promoting additional products you may have to offer. They also help you establish trust with your visitors that have given their e-mail addresses to you but have not yet
purchased anything from you.

However, before you start collecting email addresses, here are certain things you should keep in mind:

1. Learn your visitors and their needs.

The more you know about them, the better you can tailor your messages to their wants and desires.

You want to be able to push their emotional buttons, answer any questions, and be able to provide solutions to potential problems they may have.

Don’t start sending out junk, you’ll lose your subscribers in a heartbeat.

The AWeber autoresponder lets you customize a form which will allow you to not only collect email addresses, but can gather other information about your subscribers (age, sex, hobbies, etc.) and it is all stored in
a report you can review at any time.

2. Keep your e-mail messages relevant.

Stay focused. Remember, it is very important to keep your visitors interested. Put yourself in their shoes for a minute and think about what you would want to know if you were in their position.

3. Don’t be too anxious to close the sale.

If you throw one sales pitch after another in your emails, it will be obvious the only thing you’re trying to do is get a sale. Sure that’s your ultimate goal, but you can’t make it so obvious.

The exception: If your autoresponder is setup to send emails to people who have already purchased something from you and your goal is to promote the other products at your site, you can be a little more forward about getting the sale in this situation because these people have already purchased from you.

Your conversion rate may be a lot higher with these people than a person who has never bought from you.

4. Add value to your subscription

Offer freebies only to your subscribers. Make sure the free offer is relevant to their needs and is of good value. Don’t insult them by offering some product that they won’t want or need.

5. Show personality

Show people there is a human behind these emails and sale pitches. Add a humor touch in a world where faces are not seen at times. Lighten up your messages by adding humor now and then.

My Favorite Autoresponder is…

AWeber. I send out monthly newsletters and their autoresponder comes in handy because I set up the newsletters in advance and then AWeber sends them out at the interval I specify.

I tried other autoresponder programs but they did not offer half as much as AWeber.

Many successful affiliates said their autoresponder was their most effective marketing tool and many of them use Aweber. They stress how important it is to build relationships and conduct follow-ups via email.

Aweber’s autoresponder allows you to send an unlimited amount of follow-up messages at the intervals you specify. They provide great reports that include “open rate”, “click-thru rate”, and leads generated daily, weekly and monthly. You are also able to import leads into your account and they allow you to create as many different lists as you want (newsletters, follow-up to purchases, special promotions etc.) and you can even send HTML emails.

Here are the details on AWeber autoresponder free trial
